Bio
Born in London, Ontario, Travis Reichstein is a Canadian composer with over two decades of experience in the field. Initially a self-taught pianist, he later graduated from Western University where he majored in music, studied voice, and concentrated on composition, music theory, and foreign languages. Travis has dedicated his career to crafting evocative and aesthetic-focused works for various instruments and vocal forms.
His passion for writing both words and music for his vocal pieces has led to a diverse body of work that spans opera, musical theatre, art song, and choral compositions. He has written extensively for piano, as well as strings in various combinations, and assorted works for large and small ensembles. Played instruments – in order of proficiency – include piano, accordion, viola, and guitar, and he is enamoured with the art of improvisation on all of them. He is a dedicated mentor to his small studio of keen piano and composition students,
Outside the realm of classical music, he can be found worldbuilding for his dungeons & dragons campaigns, fermenting kimchi and various ciders, dabbling with writing, and conquering the many hiking trails that Ontario has to offer. He is always on the lookout for new musicians and organizations to collaborate with.
